IPv6 Security Vulnerabilities
نویسنده
چکیده
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the newest version of the protocol that is used for communications on the Internet. This version has been in existence for many years. But, currently many organizations have slowed their migration to IPv6 because they realize that the security considerations and products for IPv6 might be insufficient, despite the fact that the network infrastructure is ready to support IPv6 transport. They realize that they cannot deploy IPv6 without considering the security of this protocol at first. IPv6 security vulnerabilities currently exist, and as the popularity of the IPv6 increases, so do the number of threats. This paper covers and reviews some of the fundamental vulnerabilities topics of IPv6 security, considerations, issues and threats. At the end, it summarizes some of the most common security concerns the new suite of

One of the main purposes of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) developments was to solve the IP address depletion concern due to the burgeoning growth of the Internet users. The new Internet protocol provides end-to-end communication, enhanced security and extensibility apart from the other features such as address auto-configuration or plug-and-play and faster packet processing in the routers....
متن کاملIPv6 Security: Attacks and Countermeasures in a Nutshell
The history of computers is full of underestimation: 640 kilobyte, 2-digit years, and 32-bit Internet addresses. IPv6 was invented to overcome the latter as well as to revise other drawbacks and security vulnerabilities of its predecessor IPv4. Initially considered the savior in terms of security because of its mandatory IPsec support, it turned out not to be the panacea it was thought to be. O...

IPv6 was designed to replace the existing Internet Protocol, that is, IPv4. The main advantage of IPv6 over IPv4 is the vastness of address space. In addition, various improvements were brought to IPv6 to address the drawbacks in IPv4. Nevertheless, as with any new technology, IPv6 suffers from various security vulnerabilities. One of the vulnerabilities discovered allows Denial of Service Atta...
متن کاملSurvey of IPv6 Transition Technologies for Security Analysis
Due to the depletion of the public IPv4 address pool, the transition to IPv6 became inevitable. However, the transition will take a long time, while the two incompatible versions of the Internet Protocol coexist. Different IPv6 transition technologies were developed, which can be used to enable the communication in various scenarios, but they also involve additional security issues. In this pap...
متن کاملRisk Modelling the Transition of SCADA System to IPv6
SCADA is one of a set of manufacturing-and-control systems that are used to monitor and control critical infrastructure. Such systems extensively utilise communications network protocols such as TCP/IP to interconnect a diverse array of components. A major forthcoming change within TCP/IP is the adoption of the IPv6 protocol and inevitably this change will affect SCADA systems. However IPv6 int...
